A MESSAGE FROM SEA ISLE CITY’S OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

==HURRICANE ERIN==

Coastal Flood Warning and Tropical Storm Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning and Tropical Storm Warning as well as a High Surf Advisory, High Rish Rip Current Statement, and Wind Advisory for Sea Isle City and the surrounding region for Hurricane Erin.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and into the evening. Heavier showers and storms will produce rainfall rates exceeding 2-inches per hour at times. Two to four inches of rain are possible in our area.

Although the center of Hurricane Erin will pass well to our southeast and east on Thursday, we can expect major coastal flooding for Thursday evening through Friday evening’s high tides. This will result in flooding of roads and some structures near the ocean, back bays, and tidal waterways.

Do not attempt to drive through standing water on the streets, because your vehicle can be severely damaged and the wake your vehicle creates can damage nearby properties and and injure pedestrians. Please move vehicles to a higher location (offshore locations if possible).

Tropical Storm force winds and ocean waves 10-17 feet are expected on Thursday and Thursday night, resulting in dangerous maritime conditions.

Sustained northeast winds near 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected for our area. Please secure outside furniture and trash cans.

High rip current risk and dangerously high surf conditions on the beach could result in life-threatening conditions along the shoreline in the surf zone. Breaking waves of 5-8 feet on Wednesday will likely increase to 7-12 feet on Thursday. Significant beach erosion is possible.

In case of any Emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

Thank you – and stay safe!
