MAYOR'S MESSAGE TO CITY COUNCIL, AUGUST 11, 2026

Council has a relatively light agenda today, but it does include the award of a couple of capital improvement projects we’ll be doing this fall, including the reconstruction and paving of Pleasure Avenue from 79th to 85th Street; and new water distribution systems on 59th Street, from Landis to Central, and 53rd Street, from Central to the bay end.

Also, this fall we’ll be paving Central Avenue from JFK to 56th Street, following up on the completion last spring of improvements to our storm sewer systems.

In addition to these projects, this fall we’ll be finishing up our promenade improvement project, which includes new ADA ramps at 32nd, 40th, and 47th Streets, along with the addition of decorative lighting at the north and south sections of the promenade to match what we’ve already installed from 35th to 44th Street.

I want to mention that our Family Fun Night is tonight at Excursion Park, as we had to change the date due to our Phillies down the Shore event last night. You can join Woody and the gang from Toy Story at tonight’s event, which takes place from 7:00 to 8:30. After tonight, Family Fun Nights will continue on Monday nights through August.

And tomorrow morning, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., players from the Sea Isle City Shooting Stars Basketball program will be serving coffee and donuts to our local senior citizens inside the Community Center lobby.  The players want to show their appreciation for the great community support they’ve received throughout the year. At the last council meeting, we were able to hear from the Shooting Stars program organizers, along with several of the participants, and I want to say that this is the type of program and activity that exemplifies what makes Sea Isle such a special place.

In keeping with this theme, today it is my great pleasure to honor two of the members of the Shooting Stars program, Michael Royds and Ryan Vail.  I am appointing both of them as honorary mayors of the day, and as I conclude this morning’s report, I’m going to ask them to come forward so we can make this official!

As always, please remember we are one Sea Isle City and together we’ll be stronger than ever.

Smile, you're in Sea Isle!

Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
